Physical Education

We take great pride in being an Active School and the delivery of Quality physical education – our specialist physical education teacher is experienced in the high-quality implementation of PE and Sports programs. Health and Physical Education focuses on students enhancing their own and others’ health, safety, wellbeing and physical activity participation in varied and changing contexts.

In Health and Physical Education, students develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to strengthen their sense of self, and build and manage satisfying relationships. The curriculum helps them to be resilient, and to make decisions and take actions to promote their health, safety and physical activity participation. (Victorian Curriculum Rationale)

We work within The Active Schools Framework which supports schools to take a whole-school approach to physical activity, recognising there is no single solution to shifting inactivity; it takes a multifaceted and system-wide effort. We strive to ensure that all students have the skills, confidence and motivation to be active in life.

As an Active School we work hard to ensure we provide students opportunities to be active through the six priority areas outlined in the Active Schools Framework.

A highlight for ASPS in 2021 was a visit from The Hon Natalie Hutchins MP, Minister for Education and AFLW Carlton star Darcy Vescio. They visited Ardeer South as one of 96 schools to receive an Active Schools grant this year – part of the Labor Government’s $45.4 million initiative to give Victorian kids the skills, confidence and motivation to be active for life. We have been fortunate enought to receive $60,000 from this initiative which has given our students a multitude of active opportunities and built connections with local community sporting clubs.

Our work in this area has received recognition from ACHPER (The Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation) as an Active School in Focus. The article can be viewed at this link
